We have completed our initial review for the newest book in the One-Skein Wonders series, Little Crocheted One-Skein Wonders. While we have chosen quite a few items, we are looking for additional variety in item categories and yarn choices. We have extended the deadline for these items, and we invite you to read further for specifics of what we now need.

Items needed:
  • Mittens
  • Booties and socks
  • Dresses and jumpers
  • Sweaters and vests
Fibers:
  • Washable wools
  • Lightweight cottons
  • Bamboos
  • Blends of any of these fibers
Yarn Weights: No heavier than DK

Take care to use fibers, yarn weights, and hook sizes that result in softly draping fabrics suitable for babies and young children from newborn through 4 or 5 years of age. Each pattern should use only one skein of your favorite yarn.

Payment: Storey Publishing will pay $101 for each of the 101 patterns selected. You will grant us the one-time right to include the pattern in our publication. You will receive credit for the design and a complimentary copy of the book.

Deadline: November 21, 2014

See the Submissions Checklist below for information on how to format your submission and where to send materials.

We thank those of you who have already submitted your work to date and assure you that we will be getting in touch with you in the future to let you know the status of your submission. We look forward to your help in making this another “go-to” book for crocheters.

With best wishes,

Frequently Asked Questions

What sort of yarn can I use?
We prefer to receive projects using yarns that are currently available to most consumers. As long as the yarn is similar in style and weight to an available commercial yarn, however, your project may be acceptable. Please remember that these projects must be made from only one skein of yarn. Using parts of multiple skeins to make one full skein does not count.

Can I use another type of yarn for embellishments?
The main project must be made with just one skein of yarn. Using scrap yarn or thread for small embellishments, such as eyes on a baby toy, however, is fine.

Can I use plastic eyes/buttons/wooden handles/etc. on my project?
You may use any notions or other supplies that are essential to the creation of the finished project.

Does it have to be a completely new pattern? Or can it be something that I’m already selling online or in my shop?
It can be either a unique design that you’ve already developed and sold in a shop or online, or it can be something completely new developed just for this book.

Can I submit more than one design?
You may submit as many patterns as you would like, but we do require separate paperwork for each of your entries.

Do I need to submit the complete pattern as well as the completed item?
Yes, the written pattern must be submitted with the completed project. When we’re making selections, we’ve found it helpful to refer to the written pattern. Rest assured, we respect your rights to your pattern, and if your submitted project is not accepted, all paperwork will be returned to you intact via your included SASE.

Do I need to send a pair of gloves/socks/mittens/etc. or just one in my submission?
We must have a complete crocheted pair/set of each project.

I want to submit a wearable item. Do you prefer measurements or a schematic? If a schematic, must it be computer-generated, or is a hand-drawn schematic acceptable? Also, do you require charts to be computer-generated as well, or are meticulously hand-drawn charts acceptable?
At the very least, we need measurements for any garment. If you can include a schematic (either hand-drawn or computer-generated), that would be lovely. And charts may also be hand-drawn or computer-generated, as long as they are neat and easy to read.

What is the SASE for?
In order to return your project, we need an SASE (Self-Addressed Stamped Envelope) big enough, and with enough postage, to accommodate it.

What do “one-time rights” mean? Can I still sell my pattern(s) online or in a store?
Storey retains only one-time rights to publish patterns in our One-Skein books, as well as in any book-related marketing campaigns. You retain the actual copyright to the pattern. You may submit a pattern that you are already selling online or in a shop, and you may continue to sell it both while the book is being produced and after it has been published.

When do the projects and paperwork need to be received?
We must have the finished project physically in hand, along with all other required materials, by the November 21, 2014, deadline in order to consider it for inclusion in the upcoming book.

When will I hear from Storey about the selection process results?
We will begin to notify all designers of our decisions in late spring. Please be patient; you will hear from us one way or another when our decisions are finalized.

Can I submit my pattern and paperwork via e-mail?
Yes, we do accept project paperwork via e-mail. Send everything to oneskeinseries@storey.com. Please remember than you still must send us the actual item by the November 21, 2014 deadline in order to be considered for inclusion in the book.
